Next to the famous pulling at a pigtail (which ressembling a rope) there are also real ropes like this scene of Circus in The Sugar Creek Gang: The Great Canoe Fish (film #2). Even the same color! Swinging several times forth and back to Dragonfly who plays her brother in the movies. The pigtails of course are also swinging.
I’m watching the 5 DVD over and over again, but mainly watching for the bib overalls scenes (rating 10, sorry, no girls).
There’s also a rope in other movies like The Littlest Hobo, but I have to check for more. In the fairy tale Rapunzel, the hair is even used as a rope (2 life action movies, coming soon).

Her film mother irons her pigtails. First one on the board, second one directly on her body.
Rating 6-7 for now. But I only have seen the beginning of the movie. Very funny and good family movie (mainly for younger kids). English title Doctor Proctor’s Fart Powder.
Not sure about the time setting.
In the movie “Doktor Proktors prompepulver” (currently running on German’s kika, a mom of a blonde girl irons her pigtails. More pics and infos coming soon.
Next to mainly African hairstyles like rasta braids, twists, cornrows and similar (also see Our Gang), more than 2 braids are quite unusual, I think.
Pics 1+2 showing Thekla of Schloss Einstein in ep 148 and 149. 2 regular, thicker pigtails maybe more at the rear and 2 or more thinner ones in front of that, more from above.
Pic 2 showing Anna next to Thekla in rather red hair and Paula on the front with looped pigtails. Pic 3 showing the long loops of Paula in ep 158. I don’t like that.
Pic 4 showing I think Louisa on the right with 2 rows of braids at each side and rather ponytails. On the left Elizabeth, this time not in pigtails but somehow wild plaited. Ep 149.
Update 4 pigtails even better also in Fabrixx (rating 6)
An Indian teen boy in 3 pigtails in Susannah of the Mounties.
A young girl in 4 or more pigtails in Dilhiroj.
Cutting off one or both pigtails is another, often mean thing to do with pigtails. Often done by someone else as a prank or revenge, but also sometimes done by herself or himself for one reason or another. More movies coming soon.
Pic 1 showing an Indian teen boy in “Into the West (2005)” (episode 5) cutting off his pigtails with a knife. I think also other young men in long and rather thin pigtails. Setting in the 1870s.
Pic 2 is from “Problem Child”. A girl cutting off one pigtail from another girl. Scene at 51 minutes.
Another thing is dipping a pigtail in an inkwell at school from a boy behind. Is there any movie about that? Should be in LHOTP but I haven’t found it yet.
Another great plot is touching the own pigtails or tossing them back.
I’m currently rechecking season 6 of “The Waltons”. Elizabeth’s long red pigtails are great anyway.
I think in s6e12 “The Milestone” (ep 14 in Germany) disc 4 at 1h46, there’s this good scene pictured. While praying at the dining table, Elizabeth’s pigtails are on her front shoulders. After praying she tossed them back.
At 2h16 she’s wearing a dress and playing with her own pigtails, while Mary Ellen did something to the dress. I will make an separate post about touching the own pigtails.
The first story entry, I thought of would be a movie scene in which pigtails are being made and braided. I bet in LHOTP are such scenes. I will soon check some episodes of that.
I found a publicity pic (Getty images, January 1947) of Margaret O’Brien (*1937) reading a ghost book and her pigtails are flying up in the air. I don’t want to use copyrighted pics. She’s pictured here in the movie “Our Vines Have Tender Grapes” (1947) with looped pigtails. Entry coming soon.
I’m not sure if flying up pigtails are in one of her movies. must be before 1947 (before “The Unfinished Dance” and “The Big City”. The Canterville Ghost 1944 would make sense but is maybe too early. I only found her wearing looped pigtails. Good long, regular pigtails of her also in “Bad Bascomb” (1946).
I bet that there are other movies with flying up pigtails. Maybe in Little Rascals/Our Gang or similar movies. I only have the protruding pigtails of Pippi Longstocking.
